Yesterday in our blog we commented that the Mayor of Ottawa nedded to give his head a shake. And now here we are over at zeromeanszero.blogspot.com still shaking our own heads at the latest Larry sighting. Ya ready - cause trust us on this one - ya really need to be ready.
So it goes something like this: Earlier today there's a group assembled over at the city with Luba Goy - yes that Luba from the award winning Air Farce television show - well Luba's acting as MC and there are a number of people attending in the crowd including none other that John "I like to hand out environmentally friendly shopping bags with my name emblazoned on the side to grocery shoppers" Baird. Larry's also there. Now most know by now that Air Farce is at its last kick with the show going off the air latter this year. So anyway Larry's up at the Mic and Luba's up at the Mic and Luba says something to Larry like "I'll be looking for a job can you help me out?" So Larry says - so Larry says - now keep in mind John Baird's in the audience - Larry says something like, "Well I see John Baird is in the audience, maybe I can talk to him to see if he can get you an appointment." Better yet, Larry's standing up there as he says it expecting people to laugh yet the laughter didn't come. No one laughed. Baird, clearly pissed, gets up and walks out.
The sad part about this is that Larry clearly still believes that we the residents see his two criminal code charges as being a joke. No one laughed, Larry. Don't you get that. No One laughed because it wasn't funny. It's not funny because what you are accused of doing is not a joke. It's not a joke because after an eight month Ontario Provincial Police investigation the Crown felt that there was sufficient evidence gathered that they would be able to get a conviction of guilt. That, Larry is fact. That you embarrassed yourself today we could give a shit. That you continue to embarrass this city that's what really pisses us off.
Mayor Larry O'Brien - city of Ottawa
Larry O'Brien has been the most controversial Mayor in the city of Ottawa's history. From staff coming and going, to numerous bizzare public statements inluding equating the city's homeless to pigeons, to posing for questionable photo shots, to his senior staff using aliases to call talk radio, to other family members being investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police. Perhaps most controversial is the Mayor being charged in December of 2007 with two counts under Canada's Criminal Code including bribery and influence peddling.
The Mayor has steadfast refused to step aside until the charges are dealt with.
A Mayor's role is to lead - yet with Criminal charges hanging over his head in addition to his inability to grasp his role at the helm - our city Council has become dysfunctional.
What is clear is that the vast majority of residents in the city of Ottawa would like for nothing more than for this man to step aside - this is inclusive of the majority of those who helped to elect him to office.
We know that many of the city of Ottawa's councillors also would like for nothing more than for this man to step aside.
A man whose sole campaign promise was that he would hold the line on taxes. "Zero means Zero", he continually stated adding that he would hold taxes and user fees in Ottawa to zero for each year of his mandate. Yet this year alone the city of Ottawa's taxes and user fees are the highest increases in the city of Ottawa's history with Larry O'Brien fully endorsing the increase.
What is abundantly clear is that our city, Canada's Capital, has become a laughing stock across the country and around the world.
An embarassment brought on by one man.

ask around about how Lar-Lar represented the city of Ottawa at the Arts Conference yesterday when he introduced the key note speaker- Sir Ken Robinson Ph.D- as "Ken" and then sprinting out the door before this internationally renowned expert on creative cities had a chance to thank him for his lame introduction...
I sincerely hope there were cameras rolling on this one.

The media is really asleep at the switch on this whole sleazy connection between Baird and Larry. The media and the federal opposition that is.
Talk about ducking out! Why is Larry's trial so far away? Estimated trial duration is nine weeks and the trial will not begin until april of 2009 .
Surely there is a need to discover if these charges are true before his term runs out?
Justice delayed is justice denied ....... right?
Larry's trial could have been in September but word down the hall is Larry wanted to be Mayor during World Junior Championships. He is hording tickets and many don't want a Kwame(Larry) in photo-ops.
Larry thinks he is the star.
