What is today's question

So after having been elected almost two years ago as mayor of the city of Ottawa what continues to be abundantly clear is that O'Brien has very little clue as to the basics in which the city of Ottawa, its standing committees and its city council operate. In what is becoming standard rambling on his web site - yesterday O'Brien wrote: "On Monday the issue of weekly or bi-weekly garbage pick-up was reviewed at Planning Committee. The vote was a 5-5 tie and nothing was decided. This means we will debate this issue next week at Council." What the bald headed guy with a dog named Remi clearly doesn't understand - is that the 5-5 tie does indeed mean that something was decided and what was decided was that the motion for biweekly pick up was defeated. That's fact. What he also clearly doesn't understand is that whether a 6-4 vote, a 5-5 vote or a f_ckin' 4-6 vote the vote still needs final approval of full city council including debate by city council if it feels the need to. This is fact. Once again O'Brien continues to embarrass not only himself but all of us here in Canada's capital.

Interesting that after the Citizen reported earlier this week of the "slow sales" of the "answer to cancer" lottery there was significant push by others including the Citizen, the Sun, Max Keeping and others to put the lottery in a positive light including getting people to buy a ticket if they were able. Good stuff and we couldn't agree more. The interesting part is that most if not all reports that followed that initial Citizen article didn't even mention the chair of the foundation's board of directors, Walter "I couldn't quite cut it in the mayor's office" Robinson, and seemingly kept him in the background. We believe a great move.

Now we can't back up or substantiate the rumour that we heard being floated around that the Ottawa mayor was attempting to meet with Kreskin yesterday. Seems it couldn't be arranged but we understand that the question to "the Amazing One" was to be something to the effect "Will I be found guilty in April?" The other question that was to be asked so the rumour goes was to be, "Should I continue to assume that my dog Remi has the same skills as you?"

Staying with Remi - seems that O'Brien was not a happy camper after Transit said, "... ain't gonna happen ..." to the idea of pets on busses.

We had to chuckle yesterday as a Nick "the nut" booster with a name something like Sheila or Shirley or Shelley argued with Lowell about being allowed to call into CFRA only twice a week. Yup - interesting and fast paced life one must have to be limited to the number of calls into a radio "talk show". Guess not many are interested in what they have to say.

To close out the first week back from summer vacation - Diane and her Community and Protective Services girls and boys get down to business at 9:30am over on Laurier Avenue.
